Imagine yourself going on a cruise to the Bahamas. What do you pack? Swimsuits, short sleeves, shorts. Now imagine you're from Utah. Do you pack warm clothes? No, why would you? A cruise means chillaxing in the pool on the top deck and laying out on the sand in the Bahamas.
That's what we thought.
Here we are in our warm weather attire on the shuttle to the cruise, filled with high hopes! I still felt like I was going to puke but the hopes were high that I wouldn't!
Here I am on the boat, enjoying some water. Why am I wearing a sweatshirt you ask?
What seems wrong this with this picture? When you look at it you may be thinking, "are they on an Alaskan cruise?" or "is that Utah Lake behind you?". No, folks. We were on day 2 of our 4-day cruise, smack dab in the beautiful Bahamas. And it was COLD. If Richard, the boy who wears basketball shorts all year-round, has a coat on, you know it's cold. Apparently it was the coldest there that's it's been in T-W-E-N-T-Y years. It was also very windy as evidenced by my hair almost getting blown off my head in this picture. We have really good luck.
Luckily for us, we were on a cruise so there was lots of cool stuff to do inside!
Our first day at the Bahamas (we spent 2 days at sea just hanging out in the ship) we went snorkeling! For some reason we were convinced that it would be warmer in the bahamas than it was on our ship...
wrong again!
At this point I was asking myself "is there any way people are actually going snorkeling today?". Don't let our attire fool you, it was really cold. I think I saw one person get in the water at the beach. So the thought of immersing ourselves in the water to see some fish wasn't exactly appealing. The thought of missing it and wasting 60 dollars was also not appealing, so we went.
Even on the ship I thought for sure that no one was going to get in the water. How could they? Everyone was huddled together in their towels with their jackets on on the boat ride to the reef where we were going to be snorkeling. No one could possibly get in the water, right?
While taking this picture, my body was literally convulsing because it was so cold. Call us idiots, but we got in.
The water was actually warmer than the air, I think. Thankfully it's usually (every other day of the year than the 2 that we were there) warm there, so the water's pretty warm. If you'll notice, Richard's not wearing his mask in the picture. We found out that he gags every time the mask goes on his face. This both made me sad for him and made me laugh hysterically. I was mostly sad though because it meant he didn't really get to snorkel at all :( I know a thing or two about the gag reflex from my major in speech pathology, and I've been trying since this day to figure out how that mask that didn't even go in his mouth could trigger a gag, but I'm coming up short. He says it's genetic..?
This was the aftermath:
"Richard, can you tell how cold I am in the picture?"
you really can't. but once again, convulsions were happening. The boat ride back was pretty cold too, since we were wet, but once we got back to our room and showered it was all good. I blow dryed myself after my shower for about 20 mins. Not my hair, just everything. I guess I broke it because it hasn't worked since, but that's another story.
wanna meet some of the ones we got? well you can't because the video won't upload. but we got some pretty amazing treasures. 2 wooden turtles and some kind of dolphin thing that now reside on top of our desk.
annnyway, now that i've said to myself "what am i doing wasting my time on this blog" about a dozen times, I will wrap up this post.
We loved the Bahamas and our cruise, and even though everything didn't go like we planned, it really was a good time. The great thing about Richard is we can do pretty much anything and it's so much fun, just because we love being with each other. And that's all there is to it!
